This scholarly article review is designed to enhance the nurse’s knowledge and competence related to peripheral intravenous cannulation by promoting the use of local heat application to enhance vein dilation and visibility, improve first attempt success rates, reduce procedure time, and decrease patient discomfort and cannulation related complications.
