Fundamentals for Faith Community Health Promoters Course

The purpose of this course is to equip participants with specialized knowledge to effectively promote health, healing, and wholeness in a faith community setting.
Registration Requirements:
- Course participants should:
- reflect personal spiritual maturity
- be knowledgeable about the spiritual beliefs and practices of the faith community
- be organized, flexible, a self-starter with good communication skills

- Completed participant letter of intent about your personal goals and purpose for taking this course
- Letter of support from your clergy or spiritual leader for participation in the course, example can be provided
Course registration fee is $50. Texas Health Resources employees and Health Promoters from a Faith Community with a Program Agreement will receive a special discount price of $15.
Target Audience
Faith Community nurses, social workers, and all others who are interested in community health.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how faith and spirituality affect overall health (mind/body/spirit connection)
- Explore definitions and concepts of health, healing, and wholeness in the context of health ministry
- Discuss purpose and benefits of health ministry including historical and modern examples
- Understand the role of the faith community health promoter
- Describe basic steps for developing a health ministry
- Discuss communication and collaboration strategies and conflict management
- Apply principles of advocacy and ethics
- Explain concepts of health promotion, disease prevention, population health, and social determinants of health
- Explore methods for identifying needs at a faith community
- Locate resources to meet identified needs for a faith community
- Implement successful health activities at a faith community
- Demonstrate use of documentation and activity reporting methods to measure health ministry outcomes
- Apply strategies for personal self-care, growth, and development
