This series is designed to develop the skills and resources necessary for physicians to effectively identify major principles that guide ethical decision-making; define practice situations that carry high potential for conflict; construct a well-reasoned response to ethical situations; utilize a conceptual framework for ethical decision making that identifies alternate solutions; evaluate individual value systems in relationship to ethical decision making; compare and contrast codes of ethics of various professional groups; and demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to cultural and ethical differences among patient groups.

Physicians and healthcare professionals must be aware of the ethical and professional standards required when making ethical decisions in clinical practice. They must also be aware of their role in society and with colleagues, in relation to underlying ethical principles.
