THFW Kupferle Breast Center Grand Rounds - Breast Cancer Screening and Healthcare Recommendations for Transgender and Gender Diverse (TGD) Patients
Target Audience
This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for all physicians and nurses, involved in the screening, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship of breast disease. We also invite allied health professionals to take this course. Its purpose is to continually improve care of breast cancer patients by educating the medical staff on the most up-to-date practice guidelines. Needs exist to provide strategies on approaching diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer with the newest standards and technologies.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Define transgender diversity and the implications for breast cancer awareness and screening
- Review the TGD-specific recommendations from medical societies and healthcare organizations from common screenings for Breast Cancer
- Discuss surgical options in TGD patients that affect or change screening/surveillance patterns
- Review best practices and proposed care models for TGD patients for breast cancer screening
- Explain screening recommendations applied to TGD persons receiving gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and know breast cancer risk differences from expected based on their sex assigned at birth or affirmed gender identity
