THFW Trauma Grand Rounds - Aim for Safety: Firearm Safety Awareness and Violence Intervention
Target Audience
This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed physicians and nurses involved in the care of trauma patients. We also invite clinical staff to take this course. Its purpose is to address the need for the skills and resources (competence) required to bridge the gap of complications and delivering care when dealing with uncharted territory in physician practice, along with which best evidence-based guidelines should influence the care that is provided to a patient.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Review why children are at increased risk for unintentional and suicidal firearm injuries
- Discuss common myths related to unsecured firearms in the home with children as well as local / state statistics on firearm injury
- Demonstrate and promote proper storage techniques to reduce the risk of firearm injury
- Provide strategies for conflict resolution and emphasize the importance of communication to minimize violence in our children
