THFW Ethics Grand Rounds - Texas Health Resources Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program

Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for all physicians, nurses, pharmacists, providers, and healthcare professionals. Its purpose is to address the fact that according to the Texas Medical Board (TMB), physicians need at least 1 credit of medical ethics and/or professional responsibility a year. THFW Ethics Grand Rounds is designed to facilitate the process of making ethical decisions in clinical practice, in teaching, and in medical research; and to describe and explain underlying ethics principles, as well as the physician's role in society and with colleagues. Without this educational forum, patient care as it relates to ethical issues might be fragmented, uncoordinated, and unable to meet system and hospital standards for care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Build on knowledge of how we may have been raised or “raced” through the sharing of stories
  • Improve patient care through interprofessional problem-solving and collaboration by identifying how our biases and prejudices surface during patient care
  • Formulate individual treatment plans through interprofessional collaboration to include others’ perspectives and voices
