Target Audience
This online interprofessional enduring material is designed for physicians and nurses caring for cardiovascular patients. We also invite physician assistants, pharmacists, EMS, physical therapists and other allied health professionals to take this course. Its purpose is to address the need for knowledge and competence in regard to the latest cardiovascular treatment recommendations and considerations.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Identify key dietary strategies to support patients transitioning from hospital to home, focusing on reducing cardiovascular risk factors and promoting healing
- Explain the five essential components of a heart-healthy diet, including nutrient-rich foods, increasing fiber intake, sodium reduction and healthy fat choices to support long-term heart health
- Describe evidence-based nutrition recommendations to optimize energy levels, support muscle recovery and enhance the effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation exercises
- Demonstrate effective interprofessional communication strategies for cardiac nurses to collaborate with dietitians and other healthcare professionals in delivering clear, consistent and actionable nutrition education to patients recovering from a cardiac event
