Target Audience
This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, mental health technicians, clergy, administrators and other interested persons. Its purpose is to address the need for behavioral health and psychiatric issues/treatments.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Define Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) including prevalence, health disparities in the prevalence data, toxic stress physiology and related impacts on health including underlying biological mechanisms
- Identify how to introduce and integrate ACEs and toxic stress screening into clinical care, aligning with trauma-informed care principals
- Examine the ACEs to assess risk for toxic stress screening and identify protective factors to determine the team approach to treatment, follow-up, and referrals
- Identify strategies for improving support to people who have experienced ACEs-related trauma and toxic stress
- Review the steps required to provide culturally effective and equitable trauma-informed care to children, adolescents and caregivers affected by ACEs
