Target Audience
This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for designed for psychiatrists and social workers. We also invite psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, mental health technicians, clergy and administrators to take this course. Its purpose is to address the need for behavioral health and psychiatric issues/treatments.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Define domestic violence (DV) and its forms including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, and psychological
- Identify signs, symptoms, and dynamics of DV across diverse populations
- Describe key frameworks like the cycle of violence, power and control wheel, and stages of change and the impact on medical interaction
- Discuss how the interprofessional healthcare team can use trauma-informed communication to ask about DV in clinical settings
- Respond effectively when standard referrals (e.g., shelters or hotlines) are insufficient
