Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for physicians and nurses. Its purpose is to equip critical care clinicians with the knowledge and tools to liberate patients from the harmful effects of intensive care hospitalization including pain, agitation/sedation, delirium, immobility, and sleep disruption (PADIS), and improve patient outcomes by reducing post-intensive care syndrome (PICS).

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the six elements of ICU liberation
  • Identify gaps in ICU patient care
  • Discuss the implementation of ICU liberation bundle into daily assignments and workflows
  • Explain the electronic health record documentation requirements
  • Discuss the use of the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) used in the CAM-ICU assessment
  • Explain the different components of the RASS
  • Identify resources for healthcare clinicians for further information about using the RASS and CAM-ICU
