THR Behavioral Health Grand Rounds - Care That Connects: Culturally Responsive Mental Health for Marginalized Communities

Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for designed for psychiatrists and social workers.  We also invite psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, mental health technicians, clergy and administrators to take this course.  Its purpose is to address the need for behavioral health and psychiatric issues/treatments.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Identify key mental health disparities affecting different minority communities such as: Black, Indigenous, Latinx, AAPI, and LGBTQ+ communities
  • Describe the impact of racism, bias, and cultural stigma on access and treatment of mental illness
  • Discuss how to apply culturally responsive interventions to build trust and improve therapeutic outcomes
  • Identify ways to integrate equity-focused strategies into clinical decision-making, assessments, and care planning
  • Recognize the role of "provider privilege" and position that can either perpetuate or dismantle disparities in mental health care
