16th Annual Critical Care Conference - The Risks, Benefits and Unforeseen Complications of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in the Setting of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Target Audience

This online interprofessional enduring material is designed for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists and dieticians involved in the care of critical care patients.  We also invite physician assistants and other healthcare professionals to take this course.  Its purpose is to improve patient outcomes in the ICU and educate the healthcare team on new and recent evidence-based findings in critical care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Outline ARDS in terms of definition, incidence and basic approach to management
  • Review mechanical circulatory support, specifically focusing on ECMO
  • Describe the data and trials that both support and refute the use of ECMO in the setting of ARDS
  • Discuss the complications associated with ECMO
