Down Syndrome Partnership of North Texas: Defining, Supporting New Parents and Providing Resources
Target Audience
This online enduring activity is designed to equip physicians and nurses who care for newborns with Down syndrome (Ds) and their parents with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to provide quality care to newborns with Ds and communication to parents based on current guidelines, testing, care, and resources.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Describe the types of Ds testing and what the results mean.
- Discuss best practices for delivering a Ds diagnosis.
- Explain current guidelines and recommendations for care of a newborn with Ds.
- Discuss ways that the interprofessional team can work to manage health challenges and communication within the team and to parents.
- Recommend local resources available for new parents of a newborn with Ds.
