Overview
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Describe the components and function of an LVAD system, including the pump, driveline, controller, and power sources.
- Identify and interpret key LVAD parameters (e.g., flow, speed, power, and pulsatility index) and explain their clinical significance.
- Recognize common LVAD alarms, understand their causes, and outline appropriate initial responses to each type.
- Demonstrate knowledge of routine care and emergency management for patients with an LVAD, including anticoagulation, infection prevention, and blood pressure monitoring.
- Collaborate effectively with the interprofessional LVAD team to ensure safe and coordinated care for patients with an LVAD, especially during acute events or transitions of care.
