Overview
Target Audience
This online enduring activity, designed for physicians, nurses, and advanced practice providers, will enhance participants’ ability to evaluate heart failure epidemiology, interpret recent LVAD trial data, explain LVAD mechanisms, determine appropriate use criteria, and understand the structure of accredited LVAD care teams.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:
- Review the epidemiology of heart failure in the United States.
- Analyze the clinical outcomes, survival rates, and adverse event profiles reported in recent LVAD trials
- Explain the mechanisms of the LVAD
- Discuss the indications and contraindications for use of an LVAD
- Describe the interdisciplinary roles and required components of an accredited LVAD care team to optimize patient outcomes.
