THD NICU Grand Rounds - High-Tech Healing: The Role of ECMO in Neonatal Care

Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for physicians and nurses in neonatology, pediatrics and obstetrics. We also invited respiratory therapists to take this course.  Its purpose is to address the need to provide the latest recommendations of neonatal care and identify best practices for neonatal intensive care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the historical development and current trends in the use of ECMO for neonates
  • List the key physiological and clinical criteria used to determine the eligibility of neonates for ECMO support
  • Discuss the benefits and limitations of each ECMO mode in the context of neonatal treatment
  • Describe the impact of ECMO on neonatal physiology, including potential complications
