THD Internal Medicine Grand Rounds - Myositis: More than Weakness

Target Audience

This online educational enduring material is designed for internal medicine physicians and residents.  We also invite physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and allied health professionals to take this course.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Define the clinical spectrum of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, including typical patterns of muscle weakness, key extra-muscular manifestations, and major disease subtypes encountered in internal medicine practice
  • Apply a practical, stepwise approach to the evaluation of suspected myositis, including appropriate initial laboratory testing, autoantibody assessment, imaging, and pathologic evaluation, while distinguishing inflammatory myopathies from common mimics
  • Describe evidence-informed principles of myositis management, including the general role of glucocorticoids and steroid-sparing agents, emerging therapies, and the importance of multidisciplinary care
