THP Neonatal Grand Rounds - Caring for Those who Aren't Coping Well in the NICU: Meeting the Needs of our Families

Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and allied health professionals in neonatology, pediatrics and obstetrics. Its purpose is to address the need for the latest recommendations of neonatal care and identify best practices for neonatal intensive care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • State four major sources of stress faced by NICU parents
  • Describe five coping mechanisms that have been used to help NICU families
  • Explain four needs of NICU families and three overlapping messages they need to receive from NICU caregivers
  • Discuss the ways the multidisciplinary healthcare team can support family coping in the NICU
