THD NICU Grand Rounds - Crash Course in Neonatal Neuroimaging

Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists in neonatology, pediatrics and obstetrics. Its purpose is to address the need to provide the latest recommendations of neonatal care and identify best practices for neonatal intensive care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Differentiate the indications for head ultrasound (HUS), computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the neonate
  • Discover how Neonatal Neurology and Pediatric Neuroradiology early involvement by the multidisciplinary team can help in identifying correct imaging selection and timing
  • Describe the fundamental physics and best MRI sequences to evaluate the neonatal brain
  • Learn to interpret common pathology in the neonatal brain on MRI including hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), hemorrhage and stroke
  • Discuss advanced neuroimaging techniques as applies to the neonatal brain
