THFW Hospitalist Grand Rounds - Upstander and Implicit Bias Training

Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed to address existing and emerging issues in the diagnosis and management of internal medicine diseases to improve patient care. Physicians will develop their skills and strategize new treatment options.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Define the terms of implicit bias and upstander
  • Explain the importance of upstander advocacy as a model for improving the clinical learning and patient care environment
  • Describe the 5 Decision Making Steps model as a framework to respond to incidents of bias as an upstander
  • Generate possible communication strategies for example cases of bias
