THD NICU Grand Rounds - Management of Neonatal Reflux

Target Audience

This online interprofessional educational enduring material is designed for physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists in neonatology, pediatrics and obstetrics. Its purpose is to address the need to provide the latest recommendations of neonatal care and identify best practices for neonatal intensive care.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this online enduring material, participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish gastroesophageal reflux (GER) from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Explain that clinical signs and symptoms of GERD are non-specific in preterm infants, requiring a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and care
  • List major and minor risk factors predisposing preterm infants to GERD
  • Describe the risks of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for GERD in preterm infants
